Naturopathy is a Latin-Greek hybrid word which means "being close to or benefiting from nature."
The central principal of Naturopathy is that there is one health and one disease; the absence of health. The symptoms of ill-health are friendly messages from the body that the system has been overworked and is showing strain. Acute conditions are unavoidable. Illness is temporary, self-limiting, and normal. Acute conditions are manifestations of the eliminative organs. Naturopaths do not suppress acute conditions, they support and enhance the bodies natural healing abilities. Chronic conditions arise from the mismanagement of acute conditions. When acute conditions are suppressed they become chronic. The majority of health problems are associated with a way of living and thinking rather than pathological entities preying on human life.
